Trial set for former Charleston County deputy accused of killing 3 in Mother’s Day crash

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Jury selection is set to begin Monday for a former Charleston County deputy accused in a Mother’s Day crash that killed a woman and her two daughters.

Emily Pelletier was responding to a disabled vehicle in May 2022 when she ran a stop sign in her patrol car and struck a car carrying Stephanie Dantzler and her daughters Shanice and Miranda Dantzler-Williams. All three died at the scene.

The former deputy’s lights and sirens were not activated at the time, and the South Carolina Highway Patrol said Pelletier was driving at roughly 73 mph when she struck the vehicle. The speed limit where the crash happened was 40 mph.

Pelletier was charged with three counts of reckless homicide and turned herself in at the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center in June 2022. She was also fired from the agency.

Count on 2 for updates from the trial.
