Multiple suspects arrested in King Street assault investigation

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Charleston Police arrested three additional suspects connected to an assault that happened on King Street last month.

Officers responded to a report of an assault involving a group of teenagers on March 23 near the intersection of King Street and Calhoun Street.

It was reported that the group initially assaulted one person. When a bystander intervened, some of the teens spat on his girlfriend. 

“After the bystander confronted them about it, several suspects punched and kicked him. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” police said.

One suspect, 19-year-old Luke Chafin, of Hanahan, was arrested by nearby officials after a brief chase.

He is charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, two counts of assault and battery 3rd degree, possession of a fake ID, and minor in possession of alcohol.

Police said three additional suspects have been charged following an investigation:

  • Aiden Roberts (18, of North Charleston) is charged with assault and battery 2nd degree.
  • JUVENILE (17, of Summerville) is charged with assault and battery 2nd degree and assault and battery 3rddegree.
  • JUVENILE (15, of Summerville) is charged with two counts of assault and battery 3rd degree.

“We are grateful to the members of our community that assisted with this investigation. Detectives received dozens of tips that were crucial to resolving this case,” police said.
