North Charleston police arrest 3 people, seize guns after brief pursuit

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Authorities in North Charleston seized three illegal guns following a Tuesday pursuit that involved two men and a juvenile.

Officers with the North Charleston Police Department were patrolling the Dorchester Waylyn and Terrace communities when they noticed a driver make an unlawful lane change.

The driver did not stop when police activated their lights and sirens; however, the pursuit eventually came to a stop in front of an E. Surrey Drive home.

Officials with the department said two suspects ran from the vehicle into a backyard. “One officer witnessed a suspect pull a handgun from his waistband and throw it over a fence. The driver ran toward the back of the home but later emerged and was taken into custody,” police officials said.

The third suspect stayed in the vehicle and was detained.

A loaded pistol was found on the driver’s side floor, and another was located next to the passenger side during a search of the vehicle. “The discarded handgun was loaded with a “switch” attachment, which causes the weapon to operate automatically,” police said.

Keyonte Gambrell, 20, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and failure to stop for blue lights.

Tyrese Pinckney, 18, was charged with possession of stolen goods valued at less than $2,000.

The third suspect, a juvenile, was charged with possession of a machine gun and possession of a firearm by a person under 18.

All three suspects were taken to jail.
