Charleston County coroner identifies victim in Westchase Drive homicide

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Charleston County’s coroner identified Wednesday the victim of a West Ashley homicide.

Cheryl Gaydos, 47, from Charleston, was found dead on March 29 following a welfare check at her Westchase Drive residence.

Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal said Gaydos died from injuries following an assault. The manner and cause were deemed a homicide.

Officials with the Charleston Police Department said it appeared that the victim, Gaydos, had been the victim of a violent assault and announced the arrest of 44-year-old Jayme Ryan McKinney in connection with the death.

Police said an investigation revealed the two had been in a relationship.

An investigation is ongoing.
