Person of interest in Colleton County homicide investigation was injured after pursuit: deputies

COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A person of interest in a Colleton County homicide investigation was severely injured following a pursuit that ended in Georgia.

Officers with the Hardeeville Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on an individual Sunday along I-95 south near Exit 5.

The driver, identified as Damien Ervin Beach, led officers in a pursuit that crossed into Georgia. Georgia State Patrol intervened and utilized a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle.

Beach was ejected from the vehicle and suffered severe injuries, according to the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office.

He has been identified as a person of interest in a homicide that happened over the weekend on Quail Drive in the Walterboro area. The investigation began after someone reported seeing a man lying in a yard, covered in blood.

The investigation is ongoing.
