High schoolers gather at R.B. Stall High School to mourn death of fellow student

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A group of students gathered outside R.B. Stall High School on Monday morning to mourn the death of a fellow student.

Stall High School Principal Steve Larson said in a message to the school community that the student had suffered a “major medical crisis” on Friday and was taken to a local hospital for immediate care. The student did not survive.

“I know this news is really hard to hear. [The student] had a joy for life, his friends, and the unique ability to put a smile on anyone’s face. He will be remembered as a wonderful human being,” Larson said in his message.

He added that additional support services would be available to anyone on campus who needed it.

A group of students gathered outside the high school Monday morning to “show their love and respect and express their grief,” the Charleston County School District told News 2.

During that time, district officials said the school was placed in a “secure” and “hold” status out of precaution to limit movement inside and to secure the building to better support students.

“At no time was there a concern for the safety and security of the campus,” district officials said.

District officials say school-based staff are providing counseling support for students and staff throughout the day.
