Elementary teacher arrested for simple assault involving student

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Deputies in Dorchester County arrested an elementary school teacher on Wednesday, according to the sheriff’s office.

Ruth Jones Stephens was arrested after deputies investigated allegations of simple assault involving a student, the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office said.

Stephens teaches at Clay Hill Elementary School. Law enforcement did not release additional details surrounding the allegations.

“Today, Ruth Jones Stephens was arrested in connection with the simple assault of a student at Clay Hill Elementary School,” said Stephen Wright, spokesperson for the sheriff’s office. “Stephens was subsequently released from the L.C. Knight Detention Center after a bond hearing. The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office continues to actively investigate this incident.”
