Mike Tinkey projected winner of Mount Pleasant Town Council special election

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) — Projected winner Mike Tinkey says his priority is to put the people of Mount Pleasant first on town council.

“We all work together as a community. We’ve all grown up together. I think if you work together, you worship together, good things happen,” said Tinkey.

Mount Pleasant had steady voter turnout for the special election with almost 6,000 people casting a ballot.

Voters said they want someone who will take action on the council.

“Having someone who wants to be solution-based instead of politics, putting actions before words. It seems to be the case in some instances where it’s a lot of talk and no actions, so putting politics aside and getting stuff done for our community,” said Kaelin Hall, a Mount Pleasant resident.

“I hope we can prioritize the people our wonderful community, protecting it, keeping it beautiful, taking care of our schools and children,” said Laura Schneider, a Mount Pleasant resident.

Tinkey says he plans to do just that.

“I want to listen to our constituents to make sure I have a clear understanding of what they want. I want to focus on the things we do well. I want to protect our environment, I want to have limited development, and I want to have opportunities to get the community involved in a very transparent way,” said Tinkey.
