Goose Creek’s new art center, The Creek Collective, is nearing completion
GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCBD) – Goose Creek’s new art center, The Creek Collective, is being constructed on Saint James Boulevard where a small white chapel once stood.
“We are nearing the end of construction for the Creek Collective. This is an art gallery at the former site of the wedding and prayer chapel that we’ve been working on for the past few years,” explained Goose Creek Special Projects Manager, Alexis Kiser.
City officials said they are very excited about the project. The building is designed to be a replica of the old wedding and prayer chapel that is replaced.
The cost of renovating for former chapel would have been more expensive than constructing a new building, and the new space would be about 140 square feet larger.
“The Creek Collective is a home for arts in Goose Creek. At our first show, we’re very proud to host the Goose Creek Artist Guild. We’ve worked with them for many years, and we’re very proud and honored to display their art as our very first show at this new location,” said Kiser. “It’s also going to be a base for people to come and try out some new art mediums for the first time. Everything from painting to crocheting to small clay works.”
This will be a place of art inside and out.
“There’s a beautiful patio space right to the right of the site, and we really want to focus on actively using that space with art. So, it’s just not in the gallery, it’s outside, too. Things like sculpture areas and butterfly gardens. There will be kind of seating areas for people to go and enjoy their lunch at the patio.”
City officials say they hope to open the Creek Collective as soon as the end of May.
