SLED announces charge against man accused of stabbing Mount Pleasant officer during altercation

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – A man accused of stabbing a Mount Pleasant officer during an encounter on Johnny Dodds Blvd. has been charged with attempted murder.

According to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, the Mount Pleasant officer was responding to a 911 call about a person who had exposed himself at a bank in the East Cooper Plaza shopping center on the evening of March 18.

Once there, the officer encountered an armed man, identified as 42-year-old Jason McConnell Yount, on Johnny Dodds Boulevard, during which there was an altercation where Yount stabbed the officer, and the officer shot him.

The officer and Yount were both taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. They have since been released from the hospital.

Yount was charged by SLED with attempted murder Thursday. The investigation is ongoing.
