Georgetown County Fire and EMS to conduct smoke detector blitz

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Emergency officials in Georgetown County are conducting a Smoke Detector Blitz to ensure homes have adequate smoke alarms.

Georgetown County Fire and EMS crews will go door-to-door on Saturday in the McDonald’s community checking for working smoke alarms and installing them where needed.

Students from the Georgetown and Carvers Bay High ROTCs will assist along with several members of the community.

Officials are aiming to educate residents about the importance of smoke detectors following a recent fatal fire on Nutshell St.
