Community can give feedback on future new James B. Edwards Elementary during Thursday meeting

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A community meeting will be held Thursday to discuss reconstruction plans for a Mount Pleasant elementary school.

James B. Edwards Elementary School, named after the former South Carolina governor, opened to students in full in the spring of 1982 to alleviate overcrowding at Whitesides Elementary.

As the school grows today and requires updates, the Charleston County School District will construct a new building on the current campus. Parents and community members are invited to provide input on its design.

Funding for the project was approved during a school board meeting in December 2024.

The community meeting will take place Thursday, March 20 in the school’s cafeteria from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. (855 Von Kolnitz Road, Mount Pleasant).

Those interested in learning more about the project can contact CCSD Capital Projects at 843-566-1975 or email [email protected].
