Deputies make arrest in Walterboro homicide investigation

COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A man is behind bars Tuesday following an investigation into a deadly Walterboro shooting.

Deputies with the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Cleveland Street late Monday night after receiving a 911 call regarding a man suffering from gunshot wounds.

Arriving deputies say the victim was in critical condition. He was taken to Colleton Medical Center where he later died.

According to witnesses, the shooting stemmed from an argument between the victim and suspect, who authorities identified as 40-year-old Jovon Kendrisk Fryar of Walterboro.

Detectives located Fryar during a traffic stop on Bells Highway near Mt. Carmel Road. “He was found with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and was transported to Colleton Medical Center for treatment before being taken into custody,” the sheriff’s office said.

Frayr has been charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Officials say the driver of that stopped vehicle, Lavar Jakweice Wilson, 39, was also arrested and charged with accessory after the fact (of murder).

Anyone with information about this shooting is encouraged to contact the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office.
