Summerville PD to enforce DUI patrols for St. Patrick’s Day

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) – The Summerville Police Department will conduct DUI patrols and checkpoints on Friday as St. Patrick’s Day festivities begin.

Enforcement efforts by Summerville officers are attempts to lessen the number of DUI-related accidents and deaths on the roadways. The police department says its goal is to ensure everyone returns home safely with their families.

Officials say the checkpoints and DUI patrols will begin at 6 p.m.

The checkpoint locations will be at the Stallsville Loop between Bacons Bridge Road and Old Trolley Road and South Main Street at South Hampton Street.

The Summerville Police Department will partner with the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office for the checkpoints.

Officials urge residents to use alternatives to drinking and driving. Such as calling a friend or family member, calling a taxi, or using rideshare services.
