PHOTOS: First responders rescue baby bunnies from Berkeley County storm drain
MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCBD) – Several baby bunnies were rescued from a Moncks Corner storm drain Sunday after a group of first responders sprang into action to help a resident.
A public safety officer was conducting patrols around the Black Tom Road area when they noticed a resident in the ditch line with a trash can.
The resident told the officer that she saw several baby bunnies in the drain.
Together, the public safety officer, a Berkeley County animal control officer, and members of the Central Berkeley County Fire Department safely removed five small bunnies. They were then checked out and immediately adopted.
Unfortunately, the mother bunny did not survive, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.

“This rescue serves as a reminder of the dedication and heart our first responders bring to their work every day,” the sheriff’s office said. “We are grateful for their efforts in keeping our community safe—no matter how big or small the lives they’re saving.”
