Dorchester District 2 board allows superintendent to retire early
DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Dorchester District 2 will now have a new superintendent following a Monday night school board meeting.
DD2 Board of Trustees voted to release now-former Superintendent Dr. Shane Robbins from his contract early so he can retire. The decision is effective immediately/
He has served in the position since 2022. Dr. Robbin’s contract was initially set to expire on June 10.
The board named Deputy Superintendent Chad Daugherty as interim superintendent until a permanent replacement for Dr. Robbins can be named.
Daugherty was named deputy superintendent in 2022. He has 29 years of experience in education.
A team member shared with News 2 Dr. Robbins’ message to his staff when announcing the retirement decision. It reads:
“Team, I’m writing to share some personal news – after careful consideration, I’ve decided to retire as Superintendent. While this decision may come as a surprise, I feel that after serving 17 years as a school superintendent, it’s the right time for me and my family to move on to the next chapter of my life. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have worked alongside each of you and am proud of the accomplishments we’ve achieved together.
“Team Dorchester” is more than just a term; it’s a belief that together you can accomplish great things. I wish each and every one of you the very best, you are one team with one vision and one goal. Keep putting students first and you will continue to soar to new heights.”
