Drugs seized in Dorchester County stop; driver faces multiple charges

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office made a major drug arrest following a traffic stop in Ridgeville on Friday.

Deputies charged Charles Jacob Bryar, the driver of the vehicle, with multiple offenses, including possession with intent to distribute cocaine, trafficking in a cocaine base, trafficking in methamphetamines, and simple possession of marijuana.

According to the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office, during the traffic stop on Ridge Road, deputies detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Based on probable cause, deputies conducted a search.

During the search, deputies located a cloth bag hidden behind the vehicle’s radio containing 33 grams of crack cocaine, 13 grams of methamphetamine and 12 grams of marijuana.

“Thanks to the alertness and professionalism of our deputies, we were able to remove a significant amount of illegal drugs from our community,” said Sheriff Sam Richardson. “This arrest sends a strong message that we will continue to take proactive steps to combat drug trafficking and keep Dorchester County safe for our residents.”

Bryar remains in custody at the L.C. Knight Detention Center.
