2 accused of vehicle, property crimes on Johns Island

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Charleston officers arrested two men accused of vehicle and property crimes on Johns Island.

The Charleston Police Department began investigating on Feb. 25 after several Fontana Street residents reported that an individual had broken in or attempted to break into their vehicles.

One of the victims said they had a checkbook stolen, and police discovered it was used later in an attempt to cash a fraud check at South State Bank on Folly Road, police said.

34-year-old Zachary Louis Longman of James Island and 36-year-old Sean Michael O’Neal of Johns Island were identified as suspects and apprehended for the crimes. Both remain in custody at the Al Cannon Detention Center.

Longman is charged with crimes against a federally chartered financial institution. He is under the supervision of the SC Department of Probation, Pardon, and Parole.

Investigators believe O’Neal to be responsible for several vehicle break-ins and break-in attempts on Fontana Street. Law enforcement took him into custody on Wednesday.

O’Neal is charged with crimes against a federally chartered financial institution, two counts of breaking into a motor vehicle, two counts of property crime enhancement, and three counts of tampering with a motor vehicle. He remains under supervision for previous offenses.

As a reminder, the Charleston Police Department urges residents to keep their vehicle doors locked and report any suspicious activity.
