US Navy Band marks 250th anniversary with free Charleston concert
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The United States Navy Band is visiting Charleston for a free concert in celebration of its 250th anniversary.
Officials say all of the U.S. Navy Band concerts are family-friendly events meant to connect community members across the country.
Attendees can watch the concert for free at Charleston Southern University, Lightsey Chapel Auditorium on March 30 starting at 4:30 p.m.
The performance features a combination of three of the Navy Band’s elite ensembles: the Concert Band, the Sea Chanters chorus, and the Cruisers popular music group. Audience members can look forward to a diverse selection of musical pieces, including traditional wind band repertoire, Broadway showstoppers, as well as pop and patriotic favorites.
The United States Navy Band is touring Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida from March 11 to April 2.
In 2025, the United States Navy will celebrate 250 years of defending freedom and safeguarding America’s interests globally.
Organizers have stated that the United States Navy Band is honored to commemorate this historic milestone throughout the year. Their mission is to “bring the Navy where ships can’t go, share the Navy’s story, instill pride and patriotism, and represent the professionalism of over 330,000 active-duty Sailors serving around the world 24/7.”
