Charleston Coroner IDs male found in Mt. Pleasant pond

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has identified the male found dead in a pond along Wando Park Boulevard on Saturday.

Devante White, 31, of Mount Pleasant, was found and recovered in a pond on March 1st following a crash early that morning, according to the coroner’s reports.

As previously reported, Mount Pleasant police officers first responded March 1st around 2:35 a.m. to a report of a vehicle in the water.

Divers entered the pond but were unable to determine if anyone was inside. Divers with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office also responded and confirmed the vehicle was unoccupied before helping remove it from the water.

Authorities said there was evidence that an occupant got out of the pond and left the area.

Officers attempted to locate the driver with K9 units but the trail was lost along Wando Park Boulevard.

At 12:09 p.m., a missing person report led authorities to believe the individual may have been in the vehicle when it crashed into the pond. The dive team returned and found White at 3:55 p.m. deceased in the pond.

The Mount Pleasant Police Department is investigating.
