Man who shot at vehicles in apparent act of road rage dead following standoff: police
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A man who police say shot at a vehicle in an act of road rage and then barricaded themself inside a West Ashley home has died.
Officers with the Charleston Police Department responded to King Street and Huger Street on Friday afternoon after receiving reports that a motorcyclist had fired multiple rounds at a vehicle in an apparent act of road rage.
No one was struck by the gunfire.
“While officers were actively working the incident, they received a call from an individual familiar with the suspect, reporting that he was threatening self-harm,” said officials with the police department.
Detectives identified the suspect and responded to his Cypress Branch Court home where the man had barricaded himself inside.
“While on scene, officers heard a single gunshot and discovered the suspect with a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” officials said.
Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures on the scene. He was then taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
The suspect did not survive.
