Fire danger alert for Lowcountry amid ongoing dry conditions

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The National Weather Service has issued a fire danger statement for the Lowcountry that will be in effect until Saturday.

Officials say conditions across southern South Carolina and southeast Georgia have an increased risk of fire danger, with the greatest risk each afternoon. These fire dangers can include brush and wildfires.

On Friday, the combination of dry fuels, relative humidity values as low as 17 to 30%, and mostly wet and southwest winds of 10 to 15 mph will occur, reports say.

Saturday, the dry fuels are expected to be even drier due to another day without rain.

Residents in Berkeley County are urged to use extreme caution and limit burning.

Residents in Georgetown County are under a burn ban due to the high fire risk and limited resources.
