Burn ban in effect for Georgetown County as crews battle multiple brush fires

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A burn ban is active for Georgetown County due to high fire risk.

County officials said the burn went into place Thursday afternoon and will remain active until further notice because of dry conditions, an increased fire risk, and limited resources.

They said fire crews were actively battling multiple brush fires.

Georgetown County Fire and EMS said on Facebook that there have been several brush fires over the past few days, putting lives and property at risk.

“With dry conditions and increased fire danger, we strongly urge all residents to refrain from outdoor burning at this time,” the agency said, adding that even a small spark can quickly turn into a dangerous wildfire. “Let’s all do our part to keep our community safe! If you see an uncontrolled fire, call 911 immediately.”
