Minor identified as victim of Summerville neighborhood shooting

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A 17-year-old had been identified as the victim of a fatal shooting in a Summerville neighborhood Tuesday night, according to the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office.

Residents of The Ponds subdivision found the minor lying in the roadway at Oak View Way after hearing gunshots. Dorchester County deputies responded to the scene around 8:20 p.m., according to the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office.

Dorchester County Coroner Paul Brouthers pronounced the victim deceased at 10:45 p.m.

A spokesperson for the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office explained that the agency’s Criminal Investigative Division is pursuing several leads related to the shooting.

Authorities believe there is no threat to the surrounding community; however, the agency plans to increase patrols in the area.

The victim will undergo an autopsy at the Medical University of South Carolina on Thursday at 10 a.m. The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office and The Dorchester County Coroner’s Office are investigating.
