SCDOT to detour traffic on I-26, College Park Road for repairs after equipment struck overpass
CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Repairs will begin this weekend on the College Park Road overpass after a piece of equipment damaged the bridge earlier this month.
The South Carolina Department of Transportation said they will shut down and detour a section of Interstate 26 E and College Park Road while crews work to repair the bridge.
“The left lanes of I-26 Eastbound will be closed leading up to Exit 203. Drivers will take exit 203 to re-enter I-26 Eastbound,” SCDOT explained. “In addition, the northbound lanes of College Park Road will be closed leading up to the bridge, and the College Park Road bridge itself will be closed.”
Work will take place on Saturday and Sunday nights from 8 p.m. until 9 a.m. Motorists are expected to follow detour signs, seek alternate routes, and expect delays.
An 18-wheeler struck the bridge on Feb. 6, damaging a support beam. The area was shut down for several hours, and traffic saw heavy delays.
