Police arrest man accused of human trafficking in West Ashley
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The Charleston Police Department arrested and charged a man with human trafficking following an investigation into prostitution in the West Ashley area.
According to officers, Kevin Laval Thompson, 29, of North Charleston was arrested for exploiting and coercing a victim into prostitution for financial gain.
On February 14, detectives with the Charleston Police Department initiated a prostitution investigation in West Ashley. During the investigation, officers say they identified a victim of human trafficking and immediately took steps to ensure their safety.
In collaboration with federal partners, CPD secured a warrant for Thompson’s arrest for trafficking in persons, first offense.
On February 17, CPD detectives and the U.S. Marshals Service located and arrested Thompson.
He is currently being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
