Police search for suspect near Mount Pleasant Planet Fitness

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – Police in Mount Pleasant are responding to a situation near a Mount Pleasant fitness center Friday afternoon.

Town officials tell News 2 that an individual walked inside the Belle Station Family Restaurant and pointed a gun at employees at approximately 4:35 p.m.

Afterward, the suspect then fled to the nearby Planet Fitness in the Belle Hall Shopping Center and barricaded themselves inside, officials added.

Officers are searching for the suspect wanted for pointing and presenting a firearm at Belle Station Boulevard, according to a release from the Mount Pleasant Police Department.

“We are asking the public to stay away from this area,” police continued. “At this time, there has been no reports of shots fire or injuries.”

There are no injuries from this situation and it is not an active shooter, police stressed.

The gym has since been cleared. Several law enforcement officers are on the scene.
