Former Charleston County detention deputy charged with misconduct

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — A now-former Charleston County detention deputy was taken into custody Thursday on multiple charges related to misconduct, according to the sheriff’s office.

Brian Ward is charged with conspiracy, contraband in a County facility, and misconduct of a public officer. No additional information was provided.

“Please be advised that any actions of the above nature shall never be tolerated, especially within our agency,” a statement from the sheriff’s office read. “As such, we are fully committed to ensuring the highest standards of accountability and integrity. We take these matters very seriously and will continue a thorough investigation.”

Ward had been with the agency since last October.
