Attorney General Alan Wilson to speak at Dorchester County GOP meeting

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) — South Carolina’s attorney general will be in Summerville Thursday for an event with the Dorchester County Republican Party.

Wilson is the guest speaker at the party’s February Social Meeting, where he is expected to discuss “the latest initiatives and activities” within the attorney general’s office.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Summerville Country Club. It is open to the public.

Wilson’s visit to the First Congressional District comes just days after the district’s congresswoman, Republican Nancy Mace, accused him in a fiery House floor speech of failing to prosecute “heinous crimes” committed against her and other women by four Lowcountry men, including sexual assault, domestic abuse, and voyeurism.

In a statement after the speech, Wilson’s office dismissed her claims as “categorically false,” adding “Ms. Mace either does not understand or is purposefully mischaracterizing the role of the Attorney General.”

“At this time, our office has not received any reports or requests for assistance from any law enforcement or prosecution agencies regarding these matters,” the statement continued. “Additionally, the Attorney General and members of his office have had no role and no knowledge of these allegations until her public statements.”

The back-and-forth offered a glimpse into what is likely to be a bitter primary fight for the Republican nomination for governor in 2026.

Both Wilson and Mace have said they are considering the position, but neither has formally announced a campaign. Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette is also expected to be a contender, though she has not publicly discussed her political future.

State Sen. Josh Kimbrell (R-Spartanburg) reposted a video on X Saturday in which he said he has “thought about” joining the gubernatorial race.
