MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – A band tutor was arrested Friday morning after it was discovered that he exchanged sexually explicit text messages with a student.

Officers with the Mount Pleasant Police Department met with the principal, assistant principal, and school counselor at Wando High School on January 31 regarding an adult music tutor who sent and received questionable messages from a student.

Stephen Spaulding, 54, was arrested Friday on a charge of criminal solicitation of a minor after turning himself into the Mount Pleasant Police Department.

Police said that Spaulding was a private band tutor who was giving lessons to the juvenile victim. He is not an employee of the Charleston County School District.
