CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Officials say a piece of equipment being carried by an 18-wheeler struck the College Park Road overpass Thursday afternoon, causing damage to a beam.
The eastbound lanes of I-26, heading toward Charleston, are closed to traffic near mile marker 203, and some lanes on the College Park overpass are blocked. Traffic is being routed off the interstate at exit 199.
Emergency crews and the South Carolina Department of Transportation are on the scene to assess the damage.
Highway Patrol told News 2 that equipment being carried by the truck struck the steel beam. Photos from a News 2 crew at the scene show damage to a beam under the overpass with crews inspecting the space.
