Sullivan’s Island police arrest man shown harassing Hispanic workers in video
SULLIVAN’S ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) – An investigation is underway on Sullivan’s Island following the release of a video on social media that shows a man harassing a pair of Hispanic workers.
The man pictured in the video is 34-year-old Sean Michael-Emmrich Johnson from Huger.
Johnson is charged with kidnapping (felony), impersonating a law enforcement officer, Larceny/Fraudulent removal or secreting of personal property and assault and battery in the third degree.
He turned himself to the Sullivan’s Island Police Department at 10:57 p.m. Friday, according to Chief Glenn Meadows. He was then transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center for booking.
Detectives used extensive video and witness interviews to determine Johnson as the suspect.
Officers with the Sullivan’s Island Police Department were dispatched to an incident on Ion Avenue on Wednesday that was initially reported as a person operating a vehicle without a license.
Deputy Chief of Police Monty Anders said in a news release that the “disturbing” video was later brought to their attention. “This video displayed possible criminal actions by the caller that were not initially reported to police while on scene,” Anders said.
The video, shared with News 2 by Spanish news outlet Nuestro Estado, shows two men sitting in a truck when approached by an individual who claimed they were driving without a license. He is heard insulting and threatening the men and is seen taking the driver’s keys from the truck.
“…you got a big old Mexican right here,” the man is heard saying. “You don’t even speak [expletive] English. What’s wrong with you? They’re coming…”
“This is my job. This is my truck. I own this country,” the man later added.
Representatives from Nuestro Estado said the men were working on Sullivan’s Island when they were confronted by the unknown man who would not let them go.
