Deadly officer involved shooting in Berkeley County

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCBD) – The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office has requested the assistance of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division after a deadly officer-involved shooting.

Deputies responded to the area of Slow Hand Lane and Whitesville Road in Moncks Corner on January 29 regarding a stabbing that occurred earlier that day.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies encountered an armed suspect who fled the scene. During the pursuit, shots were fired and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

One Berkeley County deputy was involved in the shooting. Officials report the deputy has been placed on administrative leave, per protocol, while SLED conducts its investigation.

The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the name of the deceased.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate.
