Freeze on federal grants won’t impact Charleston County School District’s free and reduced lunch programs, district says
CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Charleston County School District said Wednesday a freeze on federal grants and loans would not have an impact on the district’s free and reduced lunch programs.
“We understand there have been questions regarding the potential impact of recent federal government actions on school programs,” the district said in a message to parents. “We want to assure you that there will be no impact on the free and reduced lunch programs available to eligible CCSD students.”
The district said that while CCSD does receive some federal grants that may be affected, they are actively working with district leadership to ensure they “remain in full compliance with federal guidelines.”
It comes after the Trump Administration told federal agencies to pause the disbursement of loans and grants while the government reviews spending.
The funding pause could affect healthcare research, education programs, and meal assistance; however, the freeze was temporarily blocked by a federal judge before it went into effect.
“Our goal is to maintain all programs and supports without interruption,” CCSD said.
The district said it would keep families updated as they received new information.
