Driver strikes signpost, trees in fatal Berkeley County crash

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating after a driver ran off the road in Berkeley County and struck a signpost and multiple trees.

Troopers reported that the driver of a 2006 Ford Mustang was traveling east on Horseshoe Road, located about four miles south of Moncks Corner when the collision occurred at approximately 8:47 p.m. on Monday.

The Mustang ran off the road at the intersection of Honeybee Rd and struck a signpost and two trees.

Officials report the driver died at the scene, they were the only occupant in the vehicle.

The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has identified the driver as Mr. Toby Walther, 43, of Moncks Corner.

The coroner’s office reports this is the 7th victim that has died in Berkeley County since Jan. 1st from traffic fatalities.
