Former Charleston County School District employee charged for sexual assault, kidnapping
BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A man formerly employed by the Charleston County School District was arrested over the weekend for sexual assault and kidnapping, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.
55-year-old Courtney Darnell Dock was arrested Saturday and charged with criminal sexual conduct in the first degree and kidnapping. He was taken to the Berkeley County Detention Center and denied bond on Sunday, the sheriff’s office said.
Dock was a student concern specialist and girls varsity basketball assistant coach at Wando High School. He has since been terminated, said Andy Pruitt, a spokesperson for the school district.
“The safety and security of students and staff remain our highest priority,” Pruitt continued. “Counseling and support services are being made available to anyone in the Wando High School community who may need assistance.”
Deputies responded to a location on College Park Road Saturday after receiving reports of a sexual assault. When law enforcement spoke with the victim, she said Dock forcibly assaulted her at his home.
The victim managed to escape and call for help, the sheriff’s office said. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
BCSO said the school district is cooperating with the sheriff’s office on the investigation.
