Dorchester deputies respond to over 80 weather-related incidents
DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office released an update on road conditions detailing they responded to over 80 weather-related incidents since Tuesday.
Deputies say road conditions are improving but black ice still persists in areas of Dorchester County.
Since the start of the winter storm, the Dorchester Sheriff’s Office reports they responded to 84 weather-related incidents.
Sheriff Sam Richardson expressed his gratitude to government agencies and community partners who have helped the county during its state of emergency.
“We are incredibly grateful for all our partners, especially Dorchester County Government, Dorchester County Emergency Management Department, South Carolina Department of Transportation, Oconee County Government, municipal governments, and community partners,” said Sheriff Richardson. “This storm has shown that when we work together in strong collaboration, we can overcome any obstacles in our path. I especially want to thank our deputies for spending countless hours away from their families, protecting and serving our citizens. We encourage everyone to continue exercising caution while traveling.”
On Thursday, the county reported that many of its roadways had 1 ½ to 2 inches of ice. Dorchester deputies at the time had responded to 41 incidents since Tuesday.
“Please be patient as we work around the clock to restore normalcy. For everyone’s safety, stay home and keep our first responders safe,” said Sheriff Richardson.
