Schools annouce changes for Friday due to icy roads

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — Local school districts are announcing changes for Friday, January 24 as roads across the Lowcountry are still covered with ice.

Temperatures are forecast to stay below freezing on Thursday night, causing roads to refreeze overnight, potentially leading to dangerous black ice.

Charleston County School District

Charleston County schools will hold an eLearning Day on Friday. After-school and evening activities are canceled.

Berkeley County School District

Berkeley County schools will remain closed Friday and students will have an eLearning day. All schools and offices will be closed.

All before and after school programs, extracurricular activities, athletic events—including practices and games— and special events are canceled Friday through Saturday.

Dorchester District 2

Dorchester School District 2 will have an e-Learning Day on Friday.

Students will receive information and assignments from their teachers no later than 9 a.m., according to district officials.

All after-school activities are canceled and the LEAP Afterschool program will be closed.

Dorchester District 4

Dorchester District 4 will hold an eLearning Day on Friday for all students due to possible unsafe travel conditions.

“The safety of our students, staff, and families remains our top priority, and this decision has been made out of an abundance of caution,” district officials said. “We encourage everyone to stay safe and exercise care if traveling is necessary. Thank you for your continued understanding and flexibility.”

Williamsburg County School District

Williamsburg County School District schools will be closed Friday for an Inclement Weather Day. All district offices will also be closed.
