Red Bank Road sewer project makes ‘significant progress’
GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCBD) – A long-awaited road project in Berkeley County now has an estimated completion date.
Construction on the multi-million-dollar Red Bank Road sewer project in Goose Creek has been ongoing for several years now. The project, which includes replacing aging sewer lines and putting a median along the stretch has caused local business owners and nearby residents frustration during that time.
The years-long project is expected to be finished by the end of April, according to Berkeley County Supervisor Johnny Cribb.
“Well, thankfully, we’ve got a lot late. This is probably the most frustrating project we have in the county,” Cribb said. “The project started in the spring of 22, and there’s been a significant time where there’s been a little to work being done.”
Cribb explained that part of the reason work is moving along quicker is a new contract with Palmetto Siteworks and Sanders Brothers Construction, which will finish the project.
“Right now, there’s work going on every day,” he said.
The project was initially estimated to cost the county $8 million, but that number has risen to over $13 million.
“There are areas out there where we’ve had to block off entrances while working in an area where people can still get in and out of the businesses, but people are looking for the most efficient way to get in and out of somewhere so the small businesses while we hope it’s infinitely better on the other side of this project,” Cribb said. “They’ve definitely had an impact throughout the project. When you go to work, and you look out front, and you don’t see anybody doing any work, it’s especially frustrating.”
