Some in Lowcountry seeing wintry mix Friday morning
UPDATE: Some areas of the Lowcountry saw a wintry mix on Friday morning, primarily inland locations like Summerville, Moncks Corner, St. George, Goose Creek, and Awendaw.
The National Weather Service said in a special weather statement that freezing drizzle, sleet, and even snow flurries were reported across portions of the tri-county. None is expected to accumulate, and it likely won’t last long.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The Lowcountry may experience a wintry mix (snow, ice, sleet) on Friday morning, but Storm Team 2 said that it will have limited impact, if any.
Storm Team 2 said the dry air in the Lowcountry will hinder the wintery mix from reaching the ground. Even if it manages to overcome the dry air, the ground is warm, causing it to melt quickly.
According to meteorologist Jed Christoph, the best chance of seeing any wintery mix is between 10 – 11 a.m.
Temperatures will be in the 30s around 8 a.m. which Christoph says leaves the possibility open for a wintry mix of weather if it can overcome the dry air in place.
“This will mainly be constrained to our inland locations and – again – nothing really expected impacts-wise whatsoever, roads will be perfectly fine just wet,” said Christoph.
By the afternoon, temperatures will warm to the mid to upper 30s, and any wintry mix will transition to rain.
Cold rain can be expected beginning around 7 p.m. and lasting overnight.
