Berkeley Animal Center halts intakes due to overcrowding

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCBD) – The Berkeley Animal Center has issued an emergency moratorium on animal intakes due to overcrowding.

The shelter will only accept animals that are injured, in danger, or present a danger to others. The moratorium is effective immediately until further notice from the shelter.

In recent weeks, Berkeley Animal Center has had an influx of animals and is currently operating at maximum capacity. Anyone missing a pet is urged to visit the shelter to see if their pet is there.

Officials said reclaim fees will be waived through Saturday, January 11.

The Berkeley Animal Center will also offer reduced adoption fees. Puppies are $150 and adult dogs are $50. Kittens are available for $50 and adult cats are $25.

If you are interested in helping the animal center, they are calling on the community to consider fostering. It’s free and all supplies are provided – food, toys, and a 24/7 foster line.

People interested can visit the Berkeley Animal Center Tuesday through Saturday, between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Berkeley Animal Center is located at 131 Central Berkeley Drive in Moncks Corner.
