Motorcyclist dies after hitting deer on Berkeley County road

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A motorcyclist has died after they struck a deer while traveling on a Berkeley County roadway.

Cpl. Nick Pye with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened New Year’s Eve just after 11 p.m.

The Suzuki motorcycle was traveling south on Highway 35 when they struck a deer that was in the roadway near Russell Store Road. The driver was taken to an area hospital where they later died.

Berkeley County Coroner Darnell Hartwell identified the man as 53-year-old Kevin Douglas from Lexington, South Carolina.

Coroner Hartwell said Douglas was ejected from his motorcycle in the crash. He died early Wednesday morning.
