SLED reviewing dog bite involving Charleston County K9
CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – State agents are reviewing an incident where a Charleston County Sheriff’s Office K9 bit an individual earlier this week.
According to the sheriff’s office, the emergency door button was accidentally activated on a vehicle stopped at an establishment on Folly Road Wednesday afternoon.
The activation signaled for the K-9 to leave the vehicle, so the animal exited to find their handler. While searching for the handler, the K9 encountered an individual they perceived as a threat and bit them.
Sheriff’s office spokesperson Alexis Douglas said the handler responded to the situation quickly and removed the K9. EMS treated the citizen who was bitten. However, Douglas did not say how severe the individual’s injuries were.
CCSO’s Office of Professional Standards sent the incident to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division for review.
