Parents arrested after leaving 2-year-old home alone

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Berkeley County deputies arrested a man and a woman after a welfare check revealed they left their 2-year-old child home alone.

Sarah Amira Bounif, 21, and Matthew Paul Pichay, 23, were arrested and charged with Unlawful Neglect of a Child by Legal Guardian.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to a residence on Musket Lane in Summerville on Tuesday after a report of an unattended 2-year-old at the residence.

Deputies met with DSS and attempted to conduct a welfare check on the child. Bounif arrived while deputies were on the scene and told them her daughter was inside of the residence.

Deputies say when they entered the residence they discovered the child was locked inside of a bedroom, with the door being locked from the outside.

The child was placed in Emergency Protective Custody and transferred to the custody of SC DSS for further investigation, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
