Colleton County home destroyed in Thanksgiving morning fire

COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A home that was under renovation was destroyed during a Thanksgiving morning fire.

A motorist called 9-1-1 to report a building was on fire off Hudson Mill Road in Colleton County.

Colleton County Fire Rescue crews arrived to find a wood-frame single-family home burning, along with a two-car garage about 50 feet behind it and a pickup truck parked next to it.

Officials said a large portion of the home collapsed because of the fire. The home, garage, and most belongings were destroyed. They said a second vehicle and a boat were damaged, and some ATVs and yard tractors were saved.

Firefighters were on the scene for over four hours.

Colleton County Fire Rescue said the home was undergoing extensive renovations before the fire, and the owner was out of town for the holiday; however, they returned to the home after being notified by first responders.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
