Woman arrested for hit and run in stolen van, police say

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) – Summerville Police have arrested a woman who allegedly hit a bicyclist and two motorcyclists in a stolen van over the weekend.

Brittany Lawson was arrested and charged with grand larceny, two counts of hit and run, hit and run with great bodily injury, and felony DUI.

Police responded to South Pointe Boulevard Saturday around 1:35 p.m. for reports of a collision.

Officers arrived on the scene and found an injured bicyclist and two injured motorcycle riders. They also found an unoccupied van in a nearby ditch that was confirmed to have been stolen from a construction site earlier in the day.

Witnesses to the collision said the van driver was a white female, later identified as Lawson. She fled the scene on foot but was apprehended a short time later.

Summerville detectives said the bicyclist was taken to the hospital with severe injuries. The other two injured sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Lawson was taken to the Berkeley County Detention Center and is awaiting a bond hearing.

The Summerville Police Department’s investigation is ongoing.
