Charleston fire station temporarily closes due to HVAC replacement

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD)—The City of Charleston has temporarily closed a city fire station, which is undergoing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning repairs.

Station 9 at 1451 King Street Extension will be closed in phases to facilitate ongoing repair work. Station 9 is home to Engine 10, Haz-Mat 109, and Highwater 101 and is the administrative headquarters for the Charleston Fire Department.

Engine 109 has been relocated to Station 15 at 162 Coming Street. Administrative functions will stop later this week before being temporarily relocated to different office locations.

Department officials estimate replacing and improving the HVAC system to take about four to six weeks.

“During this brief period, our resources will be relocated on the peninsula but within the same general service area,” said Fire Chief Dan Curia. “We will maintain adequate fire and medical coverage with a combination of our resources and support through the agreements with our automatic aide partners.”
