Pedestrian fatally struck by Amtrak train in West Ashley
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A pedestrian was fatally struck by an Amtrak train early Saturday morning in West Ashley.
Charleston police say the incident occurred at approximately 5:25 a.m. near Highway 61 and Bees Ferry Road.
Preliminary investigations indicate the pedestrian was attempting to cross the tracks when they were hit. No injuries have been reported among train passengers.
The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the identity of the deceased.
Police confirmed there are no disruptions to vehicular traffic in the area as a result of the investigation.
