Georgetown County’s new TRACK Trails routes will offer educational adventures for families and children
GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Georgetown County Parks and Recreation and the Kids in Parks program on Wednesday morning will celebrate the grand opening of three new TRACK trail routes designed to be an education experience for children.
To celebrate, a ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for 11 a.m. at Rocky Point Landing to be followed by a hike along the newly dedicated trail in the Rocky Point Community Forest.
Georgetown County leaders say the new TRACK trail offers visitors self-guided activity brochures that turn an ordinary hike into a fun-filled, discover-packed adventure.
“Georgetown County’s three TRACK Trails will encourage visitors and program participants to get outside and make discoveries along the park’s trails, said T. L. Staub, Outdoor Recreation Coordinator for Georgetown County Parks & Recreation. “The new materials for children will provide great opportunities to learn more about wildlife, plants, and the many unique features of each park site.”
“With each of our TRACK Trails, we hope to engage children in the joys of outdoor exploration,” said Jason Urroz, Director for Kids in Parks. “Our ultimate goal is to help families fall in love with nature, allowing them to realize the value our parks and public lands hold for their lives.”
The new trails are located on county-maintained public property and can be found at 8 Oaks Park in Georgetown and Stables Park in Pawleys Island in addition to the Rocky Point trail.
Children who participate in the program can register their TRACK Trail adventures by visiting kidsinparks.com to earn prizes designed to make their next outdoor adventure even more fun and meaningful, according to the county.
