Smoke from malfunctioning AC unit prompts evacuation at Colleton County Middle School

COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Students and teachers were evacuated from Colleton County Middle School on Thursday morning following reports of smoke in a classroom.

Colleton County Fire Rescue responded to investigate.

Officials with the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office said the incident was isolated to one classroom and crews found a faulty blower for an AC unit. There was no damage to the classroom.

Fire-rescue personnel remain on scene; however, officials said the situation is under control.

No injuries were reported.
